Definition
A technical document the supplier of a dangerous substance or preparation shall provide to the recipient of that substance or preparation, which gives information about its associated hazards and the recommended precautions essential to protect health, safety and the environment. Such information will include the use, storage, handling and disposal of the product, and any emergency measures.

Contents The safety data sheet shall contain the following headings:
1. Identification of the substance or preparation and the company/undertaking;
2. Composition/information on ingredients;
3. Hazards identification;
4. First-aid measures;
5. Fire-fighting measures;
6. Accidental release measures;
7. Handling and storage;
8. Exposure controls and personal protection;
9. Physical and chemical properties;
10. Stability and reactivity;
11. Toxicological information;
12. Ecological information;
13. Disposal considerations;
14. Transport information;
15. Regulatory information;
16. Other information.

Other information
The safety data sheet shall be provided free of charge no later than the date on which the substance or preparation is first supplied to the recipient. For certain preparations containing lower levels of substances dangerous to health or the environment, a safety data sheet must be prepared and supplied at the request of a professional user.
The supplier shall keep the safety data sheet up to date and revise it forthwith if any significant new information becomes available regarding safety or risks to human health or the protection of the environment in relation to the substance or preparation concerned, and the revised safety data sheet shall be clearly marked with the word "revision" and with the date of the revision. The revised safety data sheet should indicate clearly the information which has been added, deleted or revised (unless indicated elsewhere) and the changes could be brought to the attention of the recipient by, for example, highlighting or sidelining. A copy of the revised safety data sheet shall be provided free of charge to all recipients who have received the substance or preparation in the last 12 months. Free revisions must also be provided to professional users who have received a preparation and requested a safety data sheet in the last 12 months.
