Definition: | Medical doctor registered with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and employed directly by an organisation or contracted to them. Alternatively, a Medical Inspector working for the Employment Medical Advisory Service of the HSE may be used. Duties of appointed doctor
Appointed doctors shall 1) conduct initial medical assessment of at-risk employees and subsequent medical surveillance at intervals of not more than 12 months and post-exposure, as appropriate; 2) certify whether in his/her professional opinion employees should: be allowed to do certain work; only work under specified conditions; or be suspended from work liable to expose them to health hazards; 3) inspecting the workplace and health record of employees, as appropriate; 4) determining and supervising other health surveillance; 5) maintaining suitable medical and health records. |
