Definition: | A type of pneumoconiosis caused by breathing in very fine dust particles containing crystalline silica (occupational exposure can occur in quarrying, mining, potteries, stone masonry, etc.). It is a debilitating scarring or fibrotic lung disease which continues to develop after exposure has stopped and is irreversible. |
