Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit Scheme |
Domain: Health and safety at work => Diseases/accidents
|
Grammatical category: | Noun phrase |
Grammar notes: | Uncountable |
Definition: | The Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit Scheme provides noncontributory, ‘no-fault', state benefits for disablement because of accidents or prescribed diseases which arise during the course of employed earners' employment (the self-employed are not covered by this scheme). Diseases are prescribed in connection with defined occupations or occupational conditions. They are only prescribed if an occupational cause is well established, and if terms of prescription can be framed in such a way that the majority of cases falling within the terms of prescription will be of genuine occupational origin. The benefit, administered by the Department for Work and Pensions, is paid in addition to other incapacity and disability benefits and it is tax-free. |
