A health and safety manager is employed by an organisation to provide competent health and safety advice and he/she may also provide other services such as: audit; inspection; investigation; risk assessment; and training. The role is likely to include advising senior management on policy formulation, the setting of objectives and targets and the implementation of effective health and safety management systems. Often in a ‘middle management' position within the organisational structure, he/she may have responsibility for managing a team of health and safety practitioners.
